Governor plants sapling of Ginkgo plant in Raj Bhawan

Governor Kalraj Mishra planted the sapling of the rare ‘Ginkgo’ plant in Raj Bhavan today. Lady Governor Satyawati Mishra also planted sapling of Ginkgo on this occasion.

The Governor said that Himachal Pradesh has been blessed with immense natural splendour and all of us should make sincere efforts to preserve it so that the green cover and environment of the state remain intact.  

Known as the living fossil dating back 270 million years, the Ginkgo plant can survive up to 1000 years. It has been used for the treatment of many diseases like Asthma, Dementia, Alzheimer’s and circulatory ailments.

The Governor earlier planted the Ginkgo in the Horticultural Research and Extension Centre, Craignano (Mashobra) and asked the Forest department to emphasise on plantation of rare tree species and medicinal plants.

Secretary to the Governor, Rakesh Kanwar was also present on this occasion.
