While presiding over the Pride of Himachal Awards function organised by the Dainik Bhaskar Group here today, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that media is rightly called the fourth pillar of democracy. Media not only plays a vital role in disseminating news but also acts as a watchdog of the society.

He also released two books titled ‘Pride of Himachal’ and ‘Hidden Himachal’, written by noted writer and historian from Shimla Raja Bhasin.   He also honoured 17 achievers from different fields on the occasion.

Chief Minister said that usually it was a notion that newspapers only provide us news, but now it has also come up with major social responsibility. He said that it was also heartening to know that the Group has come up with a Coffee Table Book ‘Hidden Himachal’ highlighting the lesser known tourist places of the State. He said that the State has immense tourism potential and if fully explored it could become a major engine for growth of the State. He said that there were several places in the State with unparalleled natural beauty and serene setting. This book written by Raja Bhasin would go a long way in showcasing the beauty of these places for tourists, he added.

Jai Ram Thakur said that another Coffee Table Book ‘Pride of Himachal’ was also a laudable effort by the Group. Noted Writer Raja Bhasin while tracing the journey of writing these two books said that these books were an attempt to  showcase  immense potential and hidden beautiful places  of the State besides  highlighting achievers of the State who have created a special place for themselves with sheer hard work and dedication.

State Editor of Dainik Bhaskar Deepak Dhiman while welcoming the Chief Minister and other dignitaries said that Dainik Bhaskar has created a special place in field of journalism with its fearless and unbiased reportings. He said that these awards were an attempt by the Group to honour the achievers of the State and thus motivate the others.
