One-day workshop was organized by the Transport Department, Himachal Pradesh under the National Road Safety Month today in HIPA to spread awareness amongst the people regarding road safety through District Youth Officers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, national volunteers and youth to spread awareness about road safety.
Chief Secretary Anil Khachi presided over the workshop. On this occasion, Anil Khachi said that compliance of law should be an integral part of our personality. It was responsibility of everyone to properly follow the rules to protect ones own and others life. Laws have been made for benefit of the people, and disobeying the laws leads to ill effects. Chief Secretary said that many road accidents take place due to human error. Improvement in the construction of roads could prevent road accidents. He said that road safety is not just a month-long programme, but is an awareness campaign that continues throughout the life. He said that awareness should be spread amongst people for obeying of traffic rules and ill effects of over speeding, drunk driving, overloading, etc.
Anil Khachi urged the participants to take and spread a positive message on road safety in the society. A Good Samaritan, who helps during road accidents, should be encouraged. The participation of Good Samaritan would decrease the number of people losing lives in road accidents. He also urged the youth to ensure their active participation in the programmes to be organized on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Year of the State. Chief Secretary also visited the painting exhibition organized by the Transport Department on Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha. He released the poster of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Catch the Rain under the National Water Mission of Central Government. Principal Secretary Transport K.K. Pant welcomed the Chief Secretary. Director HIPA C.P. Verma apprised him of various activities of the Institute.
Director Transport Anupam Kashyap while detailing various activities organized by the Department during National Road Safety Month from 18th January, 2021 to 17th February, 2021 said awareness on road safety was being spread through various programmes. He said that the Department was carrying out several works on road safety and emphasis was being laid on use of technology to make public services accessible. Superintendent of Police, Shimla Mohit Chawla and State Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Samson Masiha also spoke on the occasion. Under Ek Jila Vishesh Programme, Regional Transport Officer District Sirmour Sona Chauhan gave a presentation on road safety campaign. A short documentary on e-Transport was presented by the Transport Department during the workshop.
Additional Commissioner, Road Safety Hemis Negi proposed a vote of thanks. Additional Commissioner, STA Ghanshyam Chand, Additional Director HIPA Jyoti Rana, Course Coordinator Dr. R.K. Sharma, Faculty Instructor Ravindra Sharma, Executive Engineer Raujif Sheikh, District Youth Officer of Nehru Yuva Kendra, National Volunteers and other dignitaries were also present.
