With an objective of creating awareness for good health in the general public, the ‘Fit India Movement’ is being launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 August, 2019. The programme would be telecast live on Doordarshan and during the launch of this programme, the Prime Minister would also administer a Fitness Pledge telecast live nationwide from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The Youth and Services and Sports Minister Govind Singh Thakur said that all departments especially Urban Development, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Health, Education and GAD/SAD have been instructed to ensure that pledge taking is done at various venues by all officials and a variety of citizen groups.
The Minister informed that it has been decided to organize this programme in the Legislative Assembly along with all the MLAs of the House in the presence of the Chief Minister and the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. The Youth Services and Sports department will act as the nodal department and all the deputy commissioners, various departments have been asked to make all arrangements for success of this programme.
Secretary, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Dr. Purnima Chauhan informed that 29 August is also celebrated as National Sports Day and the department will also organize the department would also organise Major Dhyanchand Memorial Talent Search Hockey tournament in every district on this occasion. Besides, the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi will also be promoted and propagated in these programmes on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary .
