Governor Kalraj Mishra today conferred State Awards upon 12 teachers and honoured one National Award winner teacher for the year 2019 in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur during the state level Teacher’s Day function held here today.
The Governor said that technical knowledge and its use was the need of the hour, however, was more important to maintain personal relations with sensitivity. It was up to the teachers to emphasize morality along with qualitative education to the students so as to build a great society inline with Indian culture and this was the philosophy of former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, said the Governor.
Teachers were the source and instrumentalist of knowledge, who should strive to impart moral values and establish qualitative education in line with Indian culture. He said the teachers who were awarded today have definitely worked towards qualitative education and they deserve appreciation. “A teacher can do the work of personality development and self-confidence in the student. This self-confidence paves the way to success in life. Dr. Radhakrishnan taught morality lessons and he believed that discipline comes from morality”, said the Governor.
He said that after the guardian, the ward receives the values from the teacher and the child follows him seriously. He said that the behaviour and values of the teacher indirectly affect the child and these values later become his identity. He called upon the teachers to refine and encourage the talent of the children and inspire them to read books. He said that, on this auspicious occasion the teachers should have to take a pledge that they would make every possible contribution in creating a healthy and prosperous society and by continuously striving for it, we would be able to accept the views of the great educationist Dr. Radhakrishnan.
He said that the process of making good human beings should be the basis of education. The overall objective of development of children was to build a strong nation, so teachers have the obligation to imbibe moral values to the students.
“Teaching is a noble profession and carries a huge responsibility because of the conduct, character and thoughts of teachers influence the students and therefore, they should perform their duties honestly and sincerely”, said the Governor.
While congratulating the awardees, he appealed the teaching community to work with more commitment and dedication. He pointed out that children were incurious and whatever instilled in childhood would have a lifelong impact upon their lives, so the teachers should emerge as an inspiration to them by setting high examples of intellect and learning, practising good behaviour and adopting perfect discipline in their conduct. He urged them to make students aware of the core values of our culture and glorious history in order to instil a sense of patriotism and pride for their country.
He expressed happiness that Himachal Pradesh has emerged as the most advanced and prosperous state in the field of education, for which the credit goes to the teaching community.
He also released a souvenir on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that 5 September was associated with one of most eminent teachers Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, a philosopher, scholar and an educationist. Dr. Radhakishnan was an eloquent speaker, a successful diplomat, brilliant statesman, powerful administrator and a renowned writer for whom teaching was not a profession but a mission and complete devotion.
The Chief Minister said that today when we are celebrating his birthday as ‘Teachers’ day’, it is imperative to understand and synthesise his philosophy of education. By education he meant an ideal of integration within the self and the integration of the self with the universal self which could make man an ideal citizen of the world.
Jai Ram Thakur said that education plays an important role to awaken the individuals about the rights and duties besides empowering the people to understand the working of the society. He said that education should enable the youth to improve the working of society. The purpose of education was not just to help students in acquiring degrees and obtain jobs, but it should develop a spirit of inquiry and rational thinking in the youth so as to enable them to understand the society and change it wherever it is found lacking.
He exhorted the teaching community to contribute their best in spreading and promoting education. He said that teachers should imbibe moral values in the students so as to make them a responsive citizen.
The Chief Minister announced to give Rs. 31,000 each to the students of RKMV and Portmore school for promotion of cultural activities, who presented a colourful cultural programme on this occasion.
Principal Secretary, Education K.K.Pant briefed out various activities and achievements of the education department.
Director, Primary Education Rohit Jamwal proposed the vote of thanks.

Director Higher Education Amarjeet Singh, senior officers of state government, teachers and students of various schools were also present among others on the occasion.
