Ajay Banga, CEO of Mastercard, a leading global payments & technology company was nominated by the US government as the next President of World Bank. Banga is a alumnus of St Edward School Shimla. His father, Harbhajan Singh Banga a retired lieutenant general and during his posting at Shimla, junior Banga finished his schooling in St.Edward ‘s School Shimla in 1975. According to a known of the Mastercard CEO, Banga did primary education from St. Edward’s School Shimla and Public School in Hyderabad, India.
Born in Pune , Banga went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University followed by PGP in Management (equivalent to MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The 63 – year old started his career with Nestle in India and went on to work with the Citigroup in India and Malaysia. His family is originally from Jalandhar, Punjab.
It is worthwhile to mention that US Prez. Joe Biden yesterday nominated former Mastercard Chief Executive Officer Ajay Banga to lead the World Bank. He would be the first Indian-born nominee to the World Bank president role. In the 77-year history, he would be first Indian- American as World Bank president.
