Shimla, Aug 31- While emphasizing on employment generation and entrepreneurship, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said that these were the two key figures on which more work was required.
He presided over a meeting with Vice-Chancellors on National Education Policy-2020 at Raj Bhavan, today.
He said that it was important to move towards big multidisciplinary higher education institutions. For this, we have to move towards faculty and institutional autonomy and make radical changes in terms of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and student support, he added. He said that a system with multiple entries and exit opportunities would have to be established.
He emphasized on the need to shift completely towards technology like cloud technology and said that this would also reduce the cost. He also stressed the need to take new ideas from students about NEP and discuss this policy with students in groups. He said that Himachal Pradesh was a small hilly state and people were very hardworking and simple and it would be the responsibility of higher institutions to create an environment so that the state could become the first state in the country to implement the NEP.
“Go ahead with positiveness and also assure the team in achieving this goal”, said Dattatraya.
Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to Governor gave power point presentation on NEP prepared on the direction of the Governor and detailed about points of immediate action.
Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, VC, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni detailed about creation of Multidisciplinary Universities, Procedure Admissions for Universities/ HEIs, change curriculum to enhance essential learning and critical thinking and introduction of experiential learning, setting up of a National Research Foundation, introduction of Choice Based Credit System etc.
Dr. H.K. Chaudhary, VC, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar HP Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur said that NEP-2020 provides a comprehensive framework to bring a new & innovative vision for India’s higher education system and would be helpful in the development of well-rounded intellectual individuals with a mix of scientific and creative temperament. He also briefed the issues targeted by NEP and Proposed Actions concerning Agriculture University.
Dr. S.P. Bansal, VC, HP Technical University, Hamirpur has discussed steps already taken by the University in accordance with NEP.
Registrars of all three Universities were also present on the occasion. They have also given their valuable suggestions on the occasion.
