District open air jail Dharamshala to be named after Lala Lajpat Rai

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today laid foundation stone of existing ground floor and construction of first floor in district open air jail at Dharamshala in Kangra district.

The additional accommodation would be completed by spending an amount of about Rs. 82 lakh and would include inmate visitor’s room, armory room, CCTV/surveillance room, DSP room, store, pantry, para-legal office and record room etc.

The Chief Minister also unveiled the bust of Lala Lajpat Rai in the jail complex, who was kept in this jail by the British government from 21 April, 1922 to 9 January, 1923.

He announced that the jail would be named after the great freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai.

Earlier, on his arrival at Dharamshala Chief Minister was accorded warm welcome by the leaders of Kangra, party workers ad senior officers of the district.

Member of Parliament Kishan Kapoor, MLAs Arjun Singh, Ravinder Dhiman, Hoshiyar Singh and Rita Dhiman, Director General of Jails Somesh Goyal were also present on the occasion.
