Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today inaugurated ‘B-Block in Rajkiya Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (RKMV) Shimla constructed by spending an amount of Rs. 6 crore.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh being a small State has shown way to several big States in matter of development. He said that Himachal Pradesh was the pioneer State in the country in matter of development. He said that the State Government was spending about 16 percent of its total State Budget on education sector.
Jai Ram Thakur said that the State Government was committed to provide quality and career-oriented education to the youth of the State. He said that stress was being laid to improve and strengthen the education infrastructure in the State, especially in rural areas.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh was also known as the ‘Power State’ of the country as about 25 percent hydel energy potential of the country was available in the State. He said the State Government has set a target to harness about 23,000 MW power in the State in the coming years. He said that the State Government has decided that ‘Zero Billing’ would be charged for consumption of up to 60 units and cheaper electricity would also be provided at the subsidized rate of rupees 1 per unit to the consumers consuming between 61 to 125 units.
Jai Ram Thakur urged the girls to work with dedication and commitment to excel in various fields. He also said that there was no substitute and shortcut for hard work and to make the dreams come true, one has to work hard in the present era of cut-throat competition.
He announced Rs. 40 lakh for repair of Science block of the college. He also announced additionality of Rs. 2 crore for multipurpose hall in the upcoming new block. He announced Rs. 51,000 from his discretionary fund for the girls presenting cultural programme on the occasion.
Chief Minister also gave away prizes to the winner students of various events.
Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that RKMV was one of the most premier girls’ colleges in the State which has honour of producing alumni who have excelled in different spheres of life. He thanked the Chief Minister for providing funds for multipurpose hall and for repair of science block of the building for the college. He urged the Chief Minister for construction of new hostel building for the college.
Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur said that the present State Government during the Corona pandemic started online classes to ensure that studies of the students go uninterrupted. He said that the State Government was also committed for women empowerment and thus laying special thrust on education of girls. He also thanked the Chief Minister for budgetary allocation of Rs. 8412 crore for education in the financial year 2022-23.
Principal Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Shimla Dr. Navindu Sharma welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion. She also thanked the Chief Minister for making adequate provision of budget for education sector for the year 2022-23.
