Addressing on the second day of 85th plenary session of Indian National Congress Party at Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the State Government has reinstated the Old Pension Scheme to its 1.36 lakh employees in its first Cabinet meeting which shows the commitment of Congress Government towards its election promises.
Highlighting the immense contributions of Nehru-Gandhi family towards development of the Nation, the Chief Minister said that the family has made supreme sacrifices for the unity and integrity of the country. He further said that the family is not power hungry and senior Congress leaders Smt. Sonia Gandhi as well as Shri Rahul Gandhi declined the offer to assume the Prime Minister’s office. He mentioned that former Prime Minister late Shri Rajiv Gandhi had strengthened the democratic setup in the country by granting right to vote at the age of 18 years and providing 33 percent reservation to women in the Panchayati Raj Institutions to ensure their active participation in development process. He also praised the history of Congress Party which is full of sacrifices for the cause of the Nation and called up all the party-men had to stand together in 2024 in order to answer the divisive politics of BJP.
Additionally, he credited Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Senior Congress leader Smt. Sonia Gandhi for the stupendous victory in Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections. He said that the political strategy of Smt. Priyanka Gandhi had paved the way for Congress Party to come to power in Himachal Pradesh and the victory in small State would prove to be a boon to the Party in the coming elections in the country.
Regarding Bharat Jodo Yatra of senior Congress leader Shri Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister said that Shri Gandhi had covered more than 3500 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Srinagar to spread the message of unity and harmony among the people. Shri Rahul Gandhi acknowledged the responsibility of the main opposition party to raise voice against the politics of vendetta and vengeance to create awareness among the masses about their rights through Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed gratitude to the Congress High Command for giving him the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and assured that he would continue to work for the welfare of the people of the State. He emphasized that he comes from a common family and has discharged many responsibilities in the party at various levels.
