Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today launched the ‘Hariyali’ plantation campaign by planting a sapling of Taxus Baccata (Thunn) from Bada Ground of Jhundi Panchayat under Thunag sub-division of Mandi district. Chairperson State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section Dr. Sadhna Thakur was also present on the occasion. Dr. Sadhna Thakur also planted a sapling of Deodar.
The ‘Hariyali’ plantation drive is being organized across the state through Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross. Under the campaign, a target has been set to plant 1 lakh saplings in a day in the entire state while 12,000 saplings will be planted in Mandi district only. At the district level, this program will be organized through the District Red Cross Societies and the Forest department will provide the plants.
Divisional Forest Officer Nachan Tirth Ram Dhiman, honored the Governor by presenting him a shawl and a Himachali cap on the occasion.
Earlier, the Governor also inaugurated a blood donation camp at Thunag organized by the District Red Cross Society in association with the Zonal Hospital Mandi. On the occasion, the Governor said that such activities motivate the people for blood donation so that availability of blood could be ensured to the needy.
On the occasion, the Governor presented 10 wheel chairs, 2 crutches and one walking stick to the poor and needy. District Red Cross Society Mandi has so far distributed 137 wheel chairs and 71 crutches and sticks to eligible persons.
Secretary to Governor and General Secretary of State Red Cross Rajesh Sharma, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Devendra Sharma were also present on the occasion among others.
