Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called upon the students to take a pledge to read books apart from textbooks. He asked them to share their experiences of reading the book by writing letters to him.
The Governor was addressing the 12th annual prize distribution function of Government Degree College Seraj at Lambathach in Thunag sub-division of Mandi district, today. He was present as a Chief Guest and Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Chairperson, State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section was also present on the occasion.
He said that students need to move towards self-reliance. In college, we come to get specific values and education, but the aim of education should not be just a job seeker. One should be a job provider, he added. Keeping this in mind, we have to get an education and this was the demand of the future. He said that the government has started many programs and startups in this direction. He said that the annual function of any educational institution provides an opportunity for exchange of ideas. That is why they were also called ‘Milan Karyakram’. He said that this college has made tremendous progress in the short span of its existence, for which the college management deserves appreciation.
Shri Arlekar said that the college was a center of culture and it makes us decide what we want to do through education and in which direction we want to proceed. He said that all memories related to college were the most memorable ones which would be remembered throughout life. He also remembered his college days and shared the experiences of that time with the students. He urged the students to always remember the contribution of their parents.
The Governor said that the country was celebrating its 75th year of independence. The Prime Minister has called for ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from August 13 to 15th. He urged the students to participate in this campaign themselves and inspire others as well.
“If the younger generation moves forward in this direction, then our future will be secure. Every person should think about the country and the society. It is our duty as this idea decides the future of the country”, said the Governor.
On the occasion, the Governor awarded the students who have excelled in various activities and academic levels. The award for ‘Seraj Gaurav’ for the year 2019-20 was given to Divya Bharti and Kushal Chand for the year 2020-21.
Earlier, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Principal, Government College Seraj honored the Governor and read the annual report of the college.
Artists of the Seraj Theater Group also performed on the occasion.
Secretary to Governor Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Mandi Arindam Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Sardar Patel University Mandi Prof. Anupama Singh and other prominent people of the area were also present on the occasion.
