With the aim of national reconstruction, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is commencing its multi-dimensional and multifarious activities as a nationwide student organization, touching every aspect of the societal spectrum. This was stated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the inaugural function of 40th Prant Adhiveshan of ABVP held at Una today.
The Chief Minister said that after independence, need was felt that there should be a student organisation to inculcate spirit of nationalism and patriotism among the students. He said that thus in 1948, a year after Indian Independence, ABVP came into existence with the objective of channelizing students’ energy toward the task of national reconstruction. He said that today ABVP has emerged as the biggest student organisation of the world.
Jai Ram Thakur said that today ABVP was ensuring that the students play a leading role in public education, public service and peoples’ strength. Beside it was also striving for empowering students to play leading role in development while confronting corruption and anti-national attributes. He said that ABVP students from Himachal Pradesh were doing a commendable service outside the State as well for national building.
Chief Minister said that the ABVP has gifted the country a student organization which has been built over years of tireless efforts and devotion. The ABVP has relentlessly strived to enthuse generations of young people about their country and society. It carries the strength to inspire and similarly offer opportunities to future generations for constructive activities. He said that the ABVP was touching every part of our life and has not confined itself to students’ activities only.
Jai Ram Thakur said that ABVP has also played a major role in educating the people regarding the course and ill effects of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the Organisation was also working to help the students of Jammu Kashmir to bring them into the mainstream.
While expressing concern over the increasing incidents of drug abuse among the students, Chief Minister said that ABVP should come forward and play a pro-active role in checking this social vice. He said that on his initiative, the neighbouring states of Himachal namely Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan have agreed to frame a joint strategy to curb this vice, which was a threat to the very existence of our society. He said that in addition, ABVP should also come forward to make the cleanliness campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a success.
He said that ABVP has waged a constant struggle against the increasing commercialization of education, illegal Bangladeshi infiltration, terrorism, maoist violence, to create an awakening of the entire society and channelize students’ power to remonstrate on such issues.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the Theme Song of the ABVP Adhiveshan (Seminar).
Rashtriya Sangathan Mantri ABVP Sunil Ambekar said that ABVP in Himachal Pradesh was doing a commendable service and was one of the best in the country. He said that ABVP has completed over 70 years of its existence and has emerged as the major student organisation of the country. He said that besides education, the students of ABVP must carry the torch of nationality and patriotism.
Sunil Ambekar said that growth of ABVP aided movement after Prof. Yeshwantrao Kelkar, a lecturer in Bombay, became its main organiser in 1958. He said that Prof. Kelkar built the organisation into what it is now, and is considered to be the real architect of the ABVP. He said that ABVP run projects and programmes aimed at national integration and using social consciousness to solve economic and other problems. He said that today ABVP was active in all universities, IITs, IIMs and colleges. He said that role of the student Organisation is not just to raise demands of the students, but it should also play a role in nation building.
Chairman Welcome Committee R.M. Sharma welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
