A holistic campaign to eradicate drug abuse from State will be launched by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on 15th November, 2019 said Chief Secretary Dr. Shrikant Baldi disclosed this while presiding over the meeting on Prevention of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism. Dr Baldi said that an effective and prominent action towards drug abuse would be taken by the line departments in campaign manner from 15th November to 15th December, 2019 in the entire State.
He said that the drug abuse is a matter of immense concern and the eradication of drug abuse must be tackled through this special campaign in the State. He said that Social Justice and Empowerment department has been appointed as the nodal department for this special campaign and all line departments must work in a coordinated manner for successful implementation of the campaign.
He said that a strategy should be chalked to tackle the drug menace which includes preventive, curative, punitive, counselling, rehabilitation and mainstreaming of the issue. He directed the authorities for constitution of Vigilance and Monitoring Committees at District, sub division, block and gram panchayat level. He said that involvement of law makers, members of civil societies, Panchayati Raj Institutions, yuvak mandals, mahila mandals, self help groups and NGo’s must be ensured in the drive so that the campaign could reach upto grass root level.
He directed all line departments to prepare an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) strategy at departmental level along with an activity chart for a month regarding prevention and control of drug abuse. He also directed the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of all districts to provide various activities calendar for carrying out this special drive in their respective districts.
He said that for successful implementation of the campaign youths and parents both should be involved. An orientation programme should be organised in schools and a training module should be prepared for teachers for counseling the students. He said that the youth must be encouraged and counseled to choose life and to saying no to drugs.
Director General of Police S.R. Mardi, ACS Social Justice and Empowerment Nisha Singh, administrative secretaries and HOD’s of various departments were also present in the meeting.
